Chapter 5: Organize Using LionShare >> The Customize Description Editor Window

The Customize function of the Description Editor is the tool that is used for making changes to default description structures, referred to as schemas. Schemas can be developed that describe the kinds of resources that are in specific collections.

In LionShare, the user can created these custom schemas and reuse them for an entire collection. Thus, the user can apply the schema to a particular file in the collection and select this custom schema as a way to describe objects of like value. This custom schema is saved as an ontology and can be reused by accessing the Select View pull-down. The ontology can be used for shared or unshared files that the user would like to tag.

To create a custom Ontology:
1. Select the Library tab.
2. Select the desired file shared file from the Shared folder.
3. Select the Describe tab to open the Description Editor dialog box.
4. Select the Customize tab to access the customize features.
5. Create an Ontology View Name.
6. Add Elements by selecting from the list of Elements.
7. Remove elements by selecting the check box and choosing Remove Element.
8. Select the Save Ontology.
7. Select the Save tab.
