Chapter 3: Search Using LionShare >> LionShare Search Results Window
The Search Results Window is used to manage search requests, see results, view descriptive information, and retrieve or launch files. The interface shares some functions with the Search window. The following information provides a description of those features found in the Search Results Window:
Application tabs – These tabs provide the ability to toggle between different functionality of the LionShare application. By default, this will include a Search and Library. The Library tab will be highlighted to show that the user is currently in the Library window. The user can switch to the Search Window of the application by simply selecting the appropriate Search tab.
Active search requests – As new searches queries are created, they are added as an active search tab and given a name based on the search terms. By selecting one of the active search tabs, the user will be directed to the Search Results page for that search.
View types – Allows the user to look at search results in different ways by using the pull-down window. The following options are available in the pull-down window:
View as List - This view includes thumbnails for each file. By default, the files are sorted with an image or a file name, and the file settings such as file size, last modification, and sharing status are shown.
Icon View – This view shows an icon with a file name beneath. Since the icons and the file names are larger than those in the View as List format, this view allows images and files to be more recognizable.
Search Result Count – The Search Result Count provides a numerical representation of the number of files that are found which match the particular search request.
Search Results – Each search result provides the following information about each file found in the query:
Number of hits – Provides the number of times the file is found in various places on the network.
File name – Provides the file name that matches the search.
File size – Provides information on the size of the file.
Sharer – Gives brief information on the name of the user sharing the file or repository.
Permissions – Provides information on whether or not the file is accessible or inaccessible.
Firewalled – Provides information on whether or not a file is behind a firewall.
Description/Hide Description – This feature is a toggle that displays, or hides, the descriptive information about the particular file that is selected in the results listing.
Action tabs – The Action tabs are located below the Search Results window. These contain various actions that allow the user to create a new search, perform an action on a particular item in the search results, or obtain additional information about the individual sharing a file. The Action tabs include:
New Search – This tab takes the user back to the Search window to perform a New Search.
Launch File – Allows user to Launch or download a file that has been selected from Search results.
View Metadata – Allows user to view any descriptive information about a selected file.
Browse Host – Allows the user to view other files that are being shared by a particular user.
Sharer Profile – Allows the user to obtaining an information profile about the file sharer.
(Note: The file must be a file shared on the LionShare network for either the Browse Host or Sharer Profile tabs to be active.
Footer Icons – These icons provides status feedback from the application and link to collaboration features of LionShare. The following icons are located at the bottom of the screen and include, from left to right:
Left side:
Connectivity – Represent how many Ultra-Peers to whom the user is connected.
Fire-walled – Represents whether or not the application sits behind a firewall.
Files Shared – Provides feedback on the number of files the user is sharing.
Right side:
User’s name – Gives the name of the authenticated user.
Login status – Tells whether the user is logged in or not logged in.
Chat window – Provides a quick link to the LionShare chat window.
Buddy List – Provides a quick link to the LionShare buddy list for chat.
To browse active search requests:
1. Locate the Active Search Request tabs near the top of the window. (Note: If there is more than one active search request, there will be multiple tabs).
2. Select a search request to view.
To view search results in different formats:
1. Locate the view type pull-down menu at the top of the active search’s window.
2. Select the type of view for the current search (View as List, Icon View).
To view descriptive information about a particular file using View Metadata:
1. Select the file from the search results by clicking on it.
2. Select View Metadata tab located below the results window, and the Metadata Description Viewer box will be launched.
3. Use the scroll bar to review the metadata descriptions in the Metadata Description Viewer box.
4. Select “Close” to close the viewer and return to search results.
To use the Show Description/Hide Description:
1. Select a file from the list of search results.
2. Locate Description/Hide Description toggle below the search results window.
3. Select the Show Description by clicking on it, descriptive information will be revealed in the window below the results window.
4. Select the Hide Description to close the Description window.
To create a New Search:
1. Use the New Search tab to create a new search using the Search window.
2. Select the search domains to search.
3. Enter the search terms.
4. Select Search.
To Launch a file:
1. Select a file from the list of search results.
2. Select the Launch File tab located at the bottom of the screen.
Note: Launch file will launch a supporting application from the file type used or download a selected file.
To Browse Host:
1. Select a file from the list of search results.
2. Select the Browse Host tab located at the bottom of the screen.
Note: The file must be a file shared on the LionShare network for this tab to be active.
To view Sharer Profile:
1. Select a file from the list of search results.
2. Select the Sharer Profile tab located at the bottom of the screen.
