The following document is brief outline of the LionShare network's institutional and system requirements.

Summary

Institutional Prerequisites

Institutions interested in participating in the LionShare network will need to have the following institutional components in place.

  • Method to authenticate user (i.e., Kerberos, UID/Password, etc)
  • Directory Service (i.e., LDAP, NIS, SQL, or even flat-files)
  • Federation membership and a Shibboleth deployment (Optional but recommended)

The Ideal Candidate

The following is a profile of "Imaginary University," an ideal candidate for the LionShare network. Institutions would have to have all these components to have the full functionality of LionShare.

  • Infrastructure
    • Method to authenticate User
    • Directory service
    • Dedicated machine for a SASL-CA
    • Dedicated machine for a PeerServer
    • Webspace for a WebCache, PeerServerCache, and software distribution page
    • Particpation in InCommon federation
  • Users
    • 100+ test users
    • Target communities of interest (digital media users)
      • Faculty media users
      • Student groups
      • Staff groups
  • Staff
    • Manager or senior level person to act as the advocate.
    • Sysadmin with basic knowledge of Java, UNIX, and security infastructure.

Minimum Requirements

  • Hardware
    • A dedicated machine for the SASL-CA
    • Processor: pentium3 or greater
    • Memory: 256 megs or greater
    • Storage: 100mb free
  • Software
    • Operating System: Windows, OS X, Linux, Solaris
    • JVM: Sun JRE 1.5.0 or greater

Peer (Mandatory)
 Peer
  • Hardware
    • Processor: pentium 2 or greater
      • Memory: 128 megs or greater
      • Storage: 30mb free
  • Software:
    • Operating System: Windows, OS X, Linux Solaris
    • JVM: Sun JRE 1.5.0 or greater

PeerServer (Optional)
 PeerServer 

Minimum Requirements

  • Hardware
    • Processor: pentium3 or greater
    • Memory: 256 megs or greater
    • Storage: 10GB free
  • Software
    • Operating System: Windows, OS X, Linux, Solaris
    • JVM: Sun JRE 1.5.0 or greater

Ultrapeer

    • Processor: pentium2 or greater
    • Memory: 128 megs or greater
    • Storage: 30mb free
  • Software
    • Operating System: Windows, OS X, Linux, Solaris
    • JVM: Sun JRE 1.5.0 or greater
